The Ultimate Freshers Checklist

Not sure if you have everything you need to start university? Well, you've come to the right place! Check out our extensive checklist below for everything that you will need, as well as some things I wish I had thought of too.

Essential Documents

You might need to provide identification or need to provide your personal information. Having this on hand will save you invaluable amounts of time in the future, I promise.

  • Passport and/or Driving Licence

  • Admission Acceptance Letter

  • Accommodation Contract

  • Student Finance Documents

  • Scholarship and/or Bursary Documents

  • Insurance Documents

  • Medical Records / Notes

  • Bank Details

  • Visa Documents (for International Students)

Some spare cash, in pounds, could come in helpful too but is really not necessary.

Electricals

Electricals are essential to effectively access study materials and complete assignments. While some of these will be available in your accommodation or university, it is best to have your own.

  • Mobile Phone

  • Laptop

  • Printer (check if this is available in your university library or accommodation)

  • Extension Lead

  • Headphones and/or Speaker

  • Streaming Device (Chromecast, Apple TV, Amazon Fire etc.)

  • Chargers

  • Batteries

  • Ethernet Cable

Food and Consumables

Depending on where you will be studying, local food shopping can be quite expensive. You might want to bring some tinned and non-perishable items with you to get you started.

  • Salt and Pepper

  • Herbs and Spices

  • Oil

  • Pasta

  • Rice

  • Canned Goods (Soup, Tomatoes, Tuna etc.)

  • Flour

  • Sugar

  • Tea and Coffee

  • Baked Beans

  • Condiments (Sauces etc.)

It might be worth getting your first shop delivered to your accommodation. It will save you time making multiple shopping trips and allow you to unpack everything else.

Kitchenware

Most accommodation doesn't provide cooking equipment and since you probably don't know who you'll be sharing your kitchen with, you'll have to get your own.
